Zombieland Previews - Miss War

Sing along if you know the words!

"This land is Zombieland, this land is their land, from California, to the Jersey armpit!"

Now "Zombieland" is a movie I can get behind. It's been a long time since we had a good buddy-zombie flick. I'm still deeply/madly/truly in love with Shaun of the Dead, but that was from 2004. No sense living in the past.

Finally we get a movie that explains the proper rules for zombie survival! This is Woody Harrelson at his crazy best. Now as anyone who follows me knows, I have a special place in my dark heart for zombies. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a fine young cannibal. wink*

Welcome to Zombieland. The Apoc has come and gone. We have dwindling resources and a zombie-making epidemic on our hands. Now is not the time for scaredy-cats like Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg, Adventureland). Cue: Harrelson as Tallahassee,  a zombie-hatin'-shotgun-totin' redneck with a penchant for killing the sick/undead.

Presumably, Tallahassee teaches Columbus how to grow a backbone, and Columbus teaches Tallahassee how to be a better man/friend/father figure. Such is the way buddy flicks go. But, we here at MGGtSTA appreciate a film that spells out the rules for surviving the zombie-apoc. After all, that's the name of our game, isn't it?

Eisenberg's narrative and Harrelson's one-liners make this film equal parts smart and hilarious. And Abigail Breslin and Emma Stone bring the sweet sarcasm that is the heart of any good buddy flick.

We'll be keeping a sharp eye out on this film. Although it clearly lacks the endearingly sweet nature of the British-based "Shaun," it does spell out rules such as "Stay in shape, zombies are quick on their feet!" The early screener reviews look good, so we give this:

TWO "POTENTIAL" SEVERED THUMBS UP!

High honors for a zombie buddy flick. Keep an eye out for this movie to drop 10/2/09 (it doesn't have to be your eye, it can be any eye, really.)
